Training Objectives

Staff members will learn principles of PRT which can be incorporated in early intervention programs to enhance motivation when teaching any new skill

Staff members will see numerous practical examples of the 6 motivational PRT strategies being applied for improving functional communication for young children with ASD

Staff will learn how to teach PRT to parents and how to provide feedback to enhance parent empowerment and fidelity of PRT implementation.

Learning Outcomes: As a result of this workshop

1. Participants will be able to list the 6 PRT strategies for enhancing motivation for children with ASD and contrast the PRT approach with other common applied behavior analytic and speech therapy strategies for improving communication.

2. Participants will be able to assess child motivation based on observing child behavior and describe antecedent and consequence strategies to improve motivation.

3. Participants will learn multiple data collection approaches relevant for use during play-based interactions with young children.

4. Participants will understand the importance of integrating parents into early intervention and learn several strengths-based coaching strategies.

5. Participants will be able to evaluate fidelity of implementation of PRT from a 10-minute video recorded interaction

6. Participants will be able to describe how motivational PRT techniques can be applied to facilitate positive interactions with peers.
